So I decided I want to make a blog! No one will probably read it and I will probably write in it like one or two times but whatevers, I’m going to do this anyway...
So January 19, 2011 goes as any Wednesday usually goes. Lazy day, play guitar, the usual. That was the case until the faithful moment I log onto the ever so useful FACEBOOK. I noticed a friend of mine post about a gym session that was going to be the following day (I’m talking a gymnastics gym, not a weight lifting one. Weight lifting gyms are for pansies). So right away I’m stoked because I missed my usual gym sesh the Tuesday before. My excitement went to the roof when I not only found out it was free but that it was a huge jam hosted by WFPF (World Freerun Parkour Federation).
I start to look into it to find out all the info I can before hand and I come to realize that three of the world’s top athletes were going to be training at the jam. These names consist of Phil Doyle, Ben Jenkins, and Oleg Vorslav (aka the Russian climber). I immediately started calling buddies of mine to see who wanted to go train at a once in a lifetime environment and after numerous rejections I got a couple of friends to go.
The jam was everything I expected it to be. Very skilled men were training there in the gym I train at every week! Everyone was really chill too and more than happy to give pointers and help you out with whatever move you were working on. It was also cool cause I ran into an old friend there who I cot to jam with a little and meet his friends. The night was filled with a large number of high caliber freerunners and live DJ's to make it a never forgettable experience. By the end of it I had nailed my flat ground side flips, round offs to back tuck, and a failed attempt at a gainer off the tumble track (knocked the wind out of myself in the attempt).
The way back home was great to talk about everything we had done there and had landed. I can’t wait till the next jam which should not be in too long if I am correct? Maybe next time I will stop eating it so bad on my fall front flips. Good luck with that =P
